Demand Removal and Redesign of City of Darwin's Inappropriate Cyclone Tracy Monument

The issue

City of Darwin's monument was commissioned, conceived, and designed by individuals who don't seem to grasp the horror and tragedy of the cyclone, and it's aftermath. This disaster was not just a storm. It ended 66 lives, wiped out an entire city overnight, and displaced thousands, who were scattered across Australia.

I write this petition as a representative of a family deeply scarred by the catastrophe of cyclone Tracy. My family were among the survivors, and they lost everything. Every Christmas, our family celebrations were overshadowed by the memories of their loss, trauma, and evacuation to Adelaide as part of Australia's largest peace-time airlift.

This monument shows a distressing lack of empathy and understanding of the sadness, loss, and resilience of the survivors. Furthermore, City of Darwin's dismissive attitude towards those who've expressed dissatisfaction with the monument is inconsiderate and Condescending.

If you agree, please sign this petition. Together, we can ensure that the true narrative of the most devastating cyclone in Australian history is accurately and respectfully commemorated.
