I am a resident of Vasai-Virar, a bustling area in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and like thousands of families here, I face frequent power cuts almost every week. The electricity goes off without any warning for long hours, especially during the scorching heat, heavy rains, or late into the night. This not only disrupts our daily lives but significantly impacts our work, sleep, internet connectivity, children’s studies, and the well-being of elderly family members. Moreover, the constant voltage fluctuations are causing damage to our household appliances.

Despite being part of one of the most developed regions in India, Vasai-Virar is still deprived of the quality electricity service that is available in other parts of Mumbai. This unfair discrepancy has gone on for far too long, with little to no action taken to resolve our plight. The Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) has not lived up to its responsibility of providing us with reliable electricity, leaving us to suffer in a metropolitan city that should be free from such basic issues.

We propose the introduction of private electricity providers in our region to foster competition and improve service quality. By allowing private companies to operate alongside MSEB, we could ensure more efficient and reliable electricity services. Other cities have seen improvements upon adopting similar measures, where private providers offer better service to maintain their customer base.
