Ten years ago, a small group of dedicated volunteers came together to form the Lake County Mental Health Support Group, committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for those grappling with mental health challenges. Each week, individuals from Mount Dora and across Lake County gather at the Simpson House, part of the W.T. Bland Library, to share their experiences, support one another, and work towards healing. For a decade, these gatherings have been a lifeline for thousands of residents, offering community encouragement and understanding in a world that often feels isolating.

Yet recently, without notice or discussion, the Mount Dora W.T. Bland Library cancelled our weekly meetings. This sudden decision has left members scrambling to find a new venue, leaving a void for our community members in need of immediate support, especially during these trying times where mental health services are more crucial than ever.

It's not just about finding a new place to meet; it's about recognizing the importance of mental health support in our community. The library’s decision not only disrupts our regular meetings but sends the unfortunate message that our mental health community is not prioritized.

Reinstating our meetings at the Simpson House is vital. Over the years, this group has demonstrated its positive impact, helping participants find coping mechanisms, forge meaningful connections, and, for many, regain hope.
