Demand Reforms for Homeowners Associations in North Carolina

The Issue

Homeowner Associations (HOAs) play a significant role in shaping our neighborhoods and communities, and our quality of life, yet issues around membership  representation, inclusivity in the decisions making process and, financial responsibility persist.

This petition advocates for reforms that ensure HOAs grant membership by choice, they are administered equitably, providing all members participation to the decisions and inclusion of their interests.

Not for everyone the high rates the current HOA's expect are advantageous,  especially because by mandatory membership the HOA's are inclined to spend excessively the association money, at the same time, being absolved of serving kindly all the needs and expectations of all the home owners.

By choice membership, they will increase the level of accountability attentiveness and quality of their service, caring more to their members and community needs and interests. No person should feel overlooked or marginalized in their own neighborhood.

Furthermore, it is a call for transparency in spending the public money, advocating for the avoidance of unnecessarily high spendings and making economic contract decisions and as needed using own local resources.

Facts show that approximately 26-27% of the U.S. population lives in an HOA governed community (Community Associations Institute). The impact of these associations is not negligible and thus, must be conducted in a just and transparent manner.

Lastly, to encourage community participation and voicing of their expectations, HOAs must make provisions for virtual meeting attendance to reach members who may be unable to participate physically.

By signing this petition, you support making these reforms standard practice across all HOAs, serving the greater community interest and fostering quality of life, citizens rights, moderation in the money spending ,inclusivity, transparency, and respect to all members. Please sign this petition, and together, we can drive this change.
