Demand reforms and investigations of the Eurovision Song Contest from the EBU
The issue
The results of the televoting of Eurovision 2025 have been met with controversy and suspicions about the results. These include:
- A huge difference in results between the semi final and the grand final (for example, Latvia placed second in a televote-only SF while didn't even make the top half of the televote in the final)
- Israel receiving an unfairly high margin of votes given the odds, streaming numbers and general hype around their entry. (evidence)
A number of other controversies were also present, including:
- Silencing of the crowds during the shows, which greatly impacted the performance of countries such as Sweden, Finland, and Malta.
- The voting advertisements from countries such as Israel and Malta. In Israel's case, the government spent a huge sum of money on spamming ads, including on a Times Square billboard in NYC.
- Use of canned applause and cheering for most acts, which was often placed at awkward times in performances and made the whole show feel like a studio production.
- Banning pride flags being held by artists during the flag parade, violating freedom of expression.
I, on behalf of the devoted Eurovision Song Contest fanbase, demand the EBU to introduce reforms in the way the contest is run. This includes suspending or cancelling Israel's EBU membership, stopping them from participating, ditching fake audience reactions and providing more transparency in the production of the contest, specifically in the way votes are collected, verified and distributed, such as a cap of 5 votes for one country and stricter verification of voters.
I also demand a full-scale investigation of this year's contest's results to ensure legitimacy in all votes awarded.
Immediate action is required to ensure the long-term security, values and public image of the Eurovision Song Contest are upheld before the contest as we know it is irreversibly damaged.
Please note: No hate is directed at any country, broadcaster or individual. Rather, this petition aims to highlight potential controversies, as well as widespread opinion of the production of this year's ESC.
