Demand reform of Child Protective Services' investigation process
The Issue
My daughter was a loving and dedicated mother until a single false claim turned her world upside down. Without conducting a full investigation, Child Protective Services (CPS) removed my grandchildren from her care. This heartless and unjust action has severely impacted her mental health, plunging her into severe anxiety and post-partum depression, and pushing her toward the brink of psychosis.
This experience was not only traumatic but also unjust, revealing a blatant disregard for thorough investigation and fairness. My grandkids were healthy, happy, and well-cared-for, yet they were ripped away from their mother due to a baseless accusation fueled by racial discrimination.
Unfortunately, my daughter's story is not unique. Across the United States, too many families face similar heartbreak as CPS acts hastily, without sufficient investigation, often influenced by prejudice and discrimination. Removing children from their homes without evidence is not only damaging to the family structure but also violates basic human rights.
We demand that CPS revise their policies and procedures to ensure fair, thorough, and unbiased investigations. CPS should be required to present concrete evidence before separating children from their families and to protect against decisions motivated by racial prejudices. Training programs should be implemented to educate caseworkers on cultural competencies and anti-bias practices.
Furthermore, CPS should offer immediate support and mental health resources to parents during investigations to prevent the trauma and mental health struggles my daughter and countless others endure. Ensuring a transparent process with checks and balances is crucial to uphold justice and protect families from undue harm.
Our children deserve a system that works in their best interest, one that values truth and fairness above all else.
