The Issue

My fiancee and I are living in fear and continuous distress due to the consistent harassment and abuse by an officer of the law. Officer Garet Loveday has repeatedly abused his power, committing acts such as false arrests and fabrication of police reports, subsequently leading to unjust convictions. This is not a singular issue; our story represents a deeper systemic problem.

Daily, countless individuals fear performing simple tasks like driving to work for fear of police confrontation. This looming fear emanates from the rampant cases of police brutality, false arrests, and illegal search and seizure that are occurring unchecked. According to a 2020 report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, an estimated 250,000 people say they've experienced police violence or threats in the United States, too many of which lead to false arrests (source: Bureau of Justice Statistics, Police-Public Contact Survey, 2020).

We believe that the Sevierville Police Department (SPD) needs to reform its practices, pay keen attention to its officers' conduct, and undergo comprehensive training on constitutional rights. Officers must be made aware that when they violate a civilian's rights, their qualified immunity will not provide them protection.

Our primary demand is for Officer Garet Loveday to surrender his badge. He represents a broken system that needs to be mended. His actions have proved repeatedly that he is a danger to the public, using his authority not to protect, but to perpetrate harms and injustices.

Support us in this battle for justice and sign our petition. Your signature will send a clear message that we seek a safer environment, free of police misconduct and abuse. Together, we can ensure a just system that guarantees the constitutional rights of all citizens are upheld.
