Demand Reform for Child Protection Services

Demand Reform for Child Protection Services
The Issue
My personal story is a heartbreaking one, unfortunate yet not unique. I lost my daughter for eight long months due to a false allegation and a crooked case supervisor. The months that passed were full of pain and sorrow, a time of personal hell and ticking clocks that felt like a silent, relentless reminder of the void in my life. The judicial system eventually recognized this grave mistake, giving me a public apology, but the wound still bleeds with the memories of those lost months.
I was also failed as a child by cps caseworkers for years. They received abuse reports, seen doctors notes, broken bones, bruises and did nothing. It took running away for them to only arrest me and send me right back to my abuser.
The Child Protection Services (CPS), entrusted with the role of protecting children and supporting families, failed me. It is more heartbreaking to acknowledge that I'm not a solitary case. It's concerning that innocent parents have their children taken away due to false accusations or mismanagement of cases by CPS.
Statistics from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services indicate that in 2017, 2.9 out of 1000 children were victims of substantiated child abuse and neglect by their parents. It is essential to ensure protection for these children; however, instances of false allegations should not have the power to devastate innocent lives.
For this reason, our call is for a transparent and accountable reform in the CPS. This reform should include stringent verification processes to substantiate allegations, proper training for case supervisors to ensure unbiased, just actions, and a more rigorous supervisory system to avoid manipulation of cases. By implementing these changes, we hope to prevent the undue suffering of parents wrongfully accused and the worrying miscarriages of justice that I personally endured.
Our fight is not to undermine the importance of child protection, but to prevent the system from unjustly tearing families apart. Sign this petition to unite our voices to demand a much-needed change for every parent and child bound by love; no parent should have to undergo the harrowing ordeal I experienced.
