The Issue

Dear Andrew Bailey, Attorney General of the state of Missouri and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),

We, the undersigned owners of 2017 Hyundai Sonata vehicles equipped with the Theta II 2.4-Liter Engine, are united in seeking a resolution to the concerning and potentially dangerous issues that we have experienced. If you are facing any of the following problems with your vehicle, we urge you to join us by signing this petition:

1. Excessive Oil Consumption: Many of us have noticed that our vehicles are consuming oil at an alarming rate, necessitating frequent and costly refills.

2. Engine Stalling: Our vehicles have exhibited the alarming tendency to stall unexpectedly, posing serious safety hazards, especially during driving.

3. Catastrophic Engine Failure: Some of us have endured the traumatic experience of our engines suffering catastrophic failures, often resulting in significant financial burdens for repairs or replacements.

4. Engine Misfiring: Frequent engine misfiring has been a common issue, leading to reduced performance, fuel inefficiency, and potential long-term damage.

5. Gas Smell: Numerous owners have reported a persistent gas smell, raising concerns about fuel system integrity and safety.

6. Rod Bearings Seizing: Many of us have faced the severe issue of rod bearings seizing, which can lead to engine failure.

7. Loss of Power: Loss of power during acceleration or while driving has been a recurrent problem, compromising safety on the road.

These issues not only affect our safety but also impose substantial financial burdens on us as vehicle owners. We believe that these problems should not be considered normal wear and tear, and we call on the Attorney General of the state of Missouri and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to acknowledge and address them promptly.

We request the following actions from Andrew Bailey, Attorney General of the state of Missouri and the NHTSA:

Investigate and Address the Issues: We ask Andrew Bailey, Attorney General of Missouri and the NHTSA to conduct thorough investigations into these recurring problems and take appropriate actions to protect the rights and safety of affected vehicle owners.

Enforce Consumer Protections: We urge both authorities to enforce consumer protection laws and regulations to ensure that Hyundai Motor America addresses these issues promptly, fairly, and transparently at no cost to all owners of a 2017 Hyundai Sonata with the Theta II 2.4-Liter Engine.
By signing this petition, we unite our voices to seek justice and resolution for these critical issues affecting our vehicles. We believe that Andrew Bailey, the Attorney General of the state of Missouri and the NHTSA have a responsibility to protect consumers and ensure that Hyundai Motor America addresses these safety and performance concerns.

Please join us in signing this petition, and let us collectively make our concerns heard by Andrew Bailey, the Attorney General of Missouri and the NHTSA.

Sincerely,

Dennis & Ashley Menard
