The Issue

You may have missed it but one of the newest developments in Lawrenceburg will be a 70,000 sq ft data center starting construction soon. It will be on the north side of town slightly down from the Magna facility on Flatwoods Rd.

This land was recently rezoned in a public meeting on January 8th by the Lawrenceburg City Council that rezoned the land from Large Lot Residential to Light Industrial. The meeting was only to vote on rezoning the land and did not vote on having a data center in our community.

Just do a quick search to see communities like ours across the US that are struggling with noise and pollution that disrupts animals at nearby farms, local wildlife, and makes local residents sick.

This data center project, being pushed through without sufficient transparency and public consultation, undermines the democratic rights of the residents of Lawrence County. A public hearing would allow all perspectives to be heard, including those of concerned citizens, local environmental groups, and community planners.

We propose that the local municipalities suspend any further progress on the data center until a comprehensive public hearing is scheduled and conducted. Following the hearing, a vote of elected officials should take place to ensure a decision that genuinely represents the will of the residents.

Sign this petition to urge our local government to prioritize transparency, accountability, and democracy. Together, we can ensure that the future of Lawrence County is shaped with the input and consent of those who call it home. We should get a say in what happens in our community.
