As a devoted member of BTS ARMY and a committed listener of diverse radio programming, I believe in the core values of respect and accountability that all media outlets should uphold. Unfortunately, on September 21st, during a broadcast of The Woody Show on iHeartRadio, these values were grossly violated.
The hosts engaged in behavior that was not only disrespectful but also xenophobic, mocking BTS member Jungkook's name and his cultural identity. Furthermore, derogatory remarks were directed towards the BTS ARMY, branding us as "losers" and resorting to vulgar language to demean our community. Such behavior is not only offensive but also perpetuates a harmful narrative that dismisses the cultural contributions and achievements of BTS, a group that has become a global sensation while advocating for love and acceptance worldwide.
The influence that The Woody Show has on its vast audience means it has a responsibility to promote respect and understanding, rather than resort to offensive stereotypes and baseless insults. Media has the power to shape public perception, and it's crucial that this power is used to build bridges rather than burn them.
