The Issue

Trout River is a beautiful and close-knit community nestled in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. However, the town is in dire need of increased security measures, and we believe a crucial step in ensuring the safety of our residents is to provide the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) with an office within a public building in Trout River. Currently, our community does not have a stationed police presence, which significantly hampers prompt law enforcement responses and effective crime prevention.

I have been asked to make it clear this petition is not from Town Council as a whole nor is the idea of having better policing available a new idea. I am just one Town Councillor/resident and am doing this petition so that Town Council and the Town Manager can see this is NOT simply "my idea" but something many residents seek.

A dedicated office space for the RCMP or RNC would significantly improve their ability to patrol and safeguard our community. This move will not only enhance the sense of security among residents but also act as a deterrent to potential criminal activities. By integrating a police force within our community infrastructure, we can ensure faster response times for emergencies and a more robust partnership between our law enforcement and our residents.

Statistics show that towns with a visible police presence experience lower crime rates. According to a report by Statistics Canada, communities with a dedicated police office have a 30% higher success rate in resolving cases compared to those without. Furthermore, with the town structure of Trout River being small and dense, having a local office would facilitate more community-oriented policing strategies, thereby fostering trust and cooperation between residents and the police.

The establishment of an RCMP or RNC office in a public building won't require extensive resources. Suitable locations could include parts of our town hall or other underutilized public facilities. This initiative can be a cost-effective way to significantly enhance the safety and well-being of everyone in Trout River.

We call upon the Town Manager and Town Council of Trout River to prioritize the safety of our citizens and expedite setting up a public office for the RCMP or RNC. The community's peace of mind and security are of paramount importance, and this step is vital in ensuring that our town remains a safe and inviting place for all.
Join us in advocating for a secure future for Trout River. Please sign this petition to show your support for establishing a local police office in our community.
