The Issue

Pikeville, North Carolina is a quaint, sweet town. Our residents are typically life-long- born and raised. Unfortunately, we do not have very many active residents in the town's political interests with the maximum number of votes in each election only topping 60-80 eligible voters. As a result, most of the races are popularity contests.

In 2021, Pikeville was taken over by the state due to egregious personnel matters, commissioner conflict of interest, and financial worry. During this time, the state changed the form of government from an administrator-commissioner based to a manager-commissioner based which would allow a MANAGER to make decisions regarding personnel and other duties inside the town hall.

On June  10, 2024, Commissioners West, Thomas, and Langston voted unanimously to change the form of government back to a administrator-commissioner form of government effective 7/1/2024. Doing so results in the termination of present town manager, Mr. Tim Biggerstaff and leaves the administrator position open for a board appointment.

It should be noted that they made this vote with only two elected commissioners and one appointed. There are two open seats on the board which they have yet attempted to fill with a special election or an appointment. Many residents would prefer a special election as having 3/5 commissioners appointed seems unethical.

Please come to these board meetings and support us with asking the commissioners to change the form of government back. Please sign this petition so we can present this to them as soon as possible.

Thank you,
