Demand Panama City Beach, Florida to Allocate a Large Area for Animal Reserve
The Issue
I am a resident of Panama City Beach, Florida and I have witnessed the heartbreaking sight of animals being killed by vehicles and left to die on the side of our streets. Some of these animals are just off the endangered species list. Snakes are venturing into populated areas where children and pets play outside. This is not their fault; they are simply trying to survive as their natural habitats are being destroyed for commercial development.
Our city is rapidly expanding with new malls, parking lots, stores, and tourist accommodations cropping up everywhere. In this process, we're cutting down forests that serve as homes for our local wildlife. The balance between urban development and nature conservation is heavily skewed towards the former.
We need to correct this imbalance now before it's too late. We urge Panama City Beach authorities to restrict an area large enough for an animal reserve where our local fauna can thrive without fear of encroachment or danger from human activities.
The reserve needs to be large enough so that animals can find food within its boundaries without having to venture into neighborhoods or stores in search of sustenance. This will not only protect them but also ensure safety in our communities.
According to data from Defenders of Wildlife (2019), habitat loss due to urbanization is one of the leading causes behind declining wildlife populations in America today. By creating a dedicated animal reserve here in Panama City Beach, we can contribute towards reversing this trend at least locally.
This petition isn't just about protecting wildlife; it's about preserving the unique character and natural beauty that makes Panama City Beach special while ensuring sustainable growth for future generations.
Children and pets are in danger from the snakes that have been driven from their homes. This not only affects the animals loosing their homes but the people that encounter venomous snakes.
Please sign this petition urging city officials to allocate a significant area as an animal reserve within Panama City Beach.
I have learned that not only is Panama City Beach affected with this problem but also other areas in Bay and Walton County.
