Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) must disclose all of their investments in Israel and companies supporting its occupation in Gaza and Rafah. The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant human rights violations, with numerous reports from organizations like Amnesty International highlighting the severe impact on civilians. Israel has murdered more than 45,000 Palestinians since October of 2023 after its illegal occupation of 76 years. It is imperative that OHSU divests fro Israel to ensure that our community does not contribute to or benefit from these injustices. Oregon is the top 3 exporter of money and goods to Israel in the United States, and as the largest hospital in the state, OHSU plays a pivotal role in the research and funding that continues to propel Israel in its genocide in Gaza and Rafah. $8.6 billion. That is the amount of money that has been funneled from Oregon to Israel since 1996. A large portion of this has gone to the Israel Defense Fund (IDF), which, have committed innumerable atrocities both in Palestine and across the world. OHSU also participates in the US-Israel Binational Science Foundation, a joint agreement between the two countries that funds research to aid in Israel’s military domination. Oregon has received a total of $1.5 million in grants, some of which has gone towards animal testing at OHSU.

Furthermore, OHSU has partnered with Intel for years, not only in the research sector but Intel tech powers OHSU’s Exacloud server, which is the most important resource on campus for data storage, and has a massive environmental impact due to its energy consumption. OHSU’s board of trustees also has former Intel employees, further exposing their motivations. Intel is the largest private sector company in Israel and one of the top three in Oregon. It has openly supported Israel’s occupation, with its CEO declaring last December that Israel is a resilient people and that Intel will continue to proudly support them. Its first plant opened in illegally occupied Palestine in 1974, and a $25 billion deal was struck for a brand new one just last December. OHSU received $10.8 million in funding from the US Department of Defense in 2023, and OHSU has partnered with IBM and the US military to aid in research and training for soldiers on campus. Both the US military and IBM have extremely close relationships to Israel, providing training, weapons, and technology that have been used to murder and surveil thousands of Palestinians. OHSU receives a large amount of equipment and funding from the Thermo Fisher scientific instrument company, which not only operates in and provides tech to Israel, but has provided DNA profiling kits to the Chinese and Tibetan governments to help surveil and track their people. Finally, OHSU is about to merge with Legacy Health, another hospital in the Portland area, which is part of the Oregon-Israel Business Alliance, an unjust organization that has allowed Oregon to become the number three exporter of goods to the Zionist state.
