Demand NYSDOT to Permit a Driveway on Southwestern for Hamburg Site Plans

The Issue

The vacant property on Southwestern and Howard Road owned by Liberatore for 30+ years is being developed. Site plans have been proposed to the Town of Hamburg, consisting of both commercial and multifamily development. The site plans directly abutting residential homes and properties. All plans currently presented to the Town of Hamburg, show only one driveway/egress on Howard Road, across from Dogwood Lane - a residential area. NYSDOT wants to push all traffic to Howard Road from Southwestern. This raises significant concerns for traffic and safety at the intersection of Howard Road and Southwestern.  As well as the surrounding neighborhoods and residential homes in relation to Howard Road.

The development is not just a matter of inconvenience; it's a question of safety for all residents in our community. According to data from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), intersections with inadequate exit routes can increase accident rates due to increased congestion.  The new dual use site plans proposed by Liberatore would increase traffic by 700%.

A driveway on Southwestern would alleviate some traffic concerns while still allowing for progress in our town. We are calling upon NYSDOT to reconsider their approval of the current site plans and demand they require a Southwestern driveway.

This is not just about us; it's about ensuring that Hamburg, NY remains a safe place to live for all its residents, both now and in future generations. Please support us in this cause – sign this petition today!
