After the tragic death of Decklan Hayward after choking on food given to him at school, Orange City Council has decided that enough is enough and is demanding that NSW schools, daycare centers, and sporting fixtures need to be equipped with the LifeVac airway clearance device to prevent further tragedies.
The NSW Education Department, on behalf of Minister Car, received a letter from LifeVac Australia about progressing this and was met with bureaucracy and excuses as to why the NSW Education Department can‘t act to protect children. None of these excuses had any validity in law, regulation, or fact. Minister Car (a parent herself) has to make a very simple decision as to whether to act to prevent future tragedies or stand by her department's advice, that they are “powerless to act“ when the very definition of insanity, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
