On July 21, 2025, we trusted the Norfolk Animal Care Center (NACC) with our dog, Zeus, under the understanding that he would be held temporarily while his ESA (Emotional Support Animal) paperwork was being finalized. We clearly stated in his intake file that we would be returning for him, and we also had a 30-minute conversation with staff explaining exactly what we were working on before releasing him into their care. At no point were we told that Zeus would be placed for adoption — nor did we pay a surrender fee.

Despite this, Zeus was adopted out — and no one from NACC ever contacted us. When we returned to pick him up, we were told he was “transferred.” Later, we found out he was already adopted. After repeatedly asking for answers, multiple staff members admitted that a mistake had been made and Zeus was never supposed to be adopted out. Yet he still hasn’t been returned.

We’ve taken every proper step — filing complaints, submitting documented evidence, and contacting local officials — yet we’re still searching for answers. This isn’t just a simple mistake. It’s a serious breach of trust, a failure in protocol, and a heartbreaking injustice.

Now, NACC refuses to give us any update on where Zeus is — even after admitting they were wrong. Our dog is still missing, and we are devastated.

We are asking for public support and visibility. Help us demand that Zeus be returned to his rightful family — and that NACC be held accountable.
