Demand MTA add elevator at Bay Parkway N train station
The Issue
Older adults and people with mobility issues living in Bensonhurst struggle every day when they try to use the Bay Parkway N train station. This is a vital transit hub for countless commuters every day, and yet somehow there is still no elevator access.
Our neighborhood is home to many older residents who deserve equal access to public transportation. The station's lack of an elevator is a glaring barrier that limits people with disabilities, the elderly, and parents with strollers in utilizing one of our fundamental public services.
In 2025, this station carried 1,624,915 total riders at a rate of 5,110 per weekday and 5,918 per weekend day. While 40% of Manhattan subway stations are accessible, only 25% in Brooklyn are.
Accessible, reliable transportation is not a luxury; it is a necessity. The Americans with Disabilities Act explicitly mandates equal access to public services, and it is time our station met this requirement.
The addition of an elevator is not only practical, it is just. The number of older adults in New York City is 20% and growing. The lack of accessibility impacts their daily lives, forcing them to either spend more on alternative means of transport or, worse, isolate themselves at home.
Furthermore, accessibility improvements promote independence, reduce isolation, and elevate the quality of life of those affected.
Let’s ensure that everyone in our community can travel with dignity and ease. Please join us in calling on the MTA to make the Bay Parkway N train station accessible by adding an elevator. Sign this petition to demand action now. Together, we can make transit accessible to all.
