SUSD elementary student arrested after gun found in backpack

January 23,2025 unfortunately a student made it past the front gates and administration with a hand gun in his backpack. He walked right past the staff this morning and none of them had a clue what he had in his backpack. The student went about his morning, in class and no one had a single clue. This could have been easily prevented. He should have never made it through the front gate. Our children need to feel safe at school and us as parents/guardians need to make it our top priority to make that happen. Why wait for a “ next time “ and risk something worse to happen? If we can convince the school and district to step up their security protocol we shouldn’t have to worry so much about a “ next time “. But if we don’t speak up now, and stand up for our children NOW this will not be the first or last time this happens. If we cannot stop the violence, we need to get together as the community we are and try our hardest to protect our children. The school/district needs to hear us and put themselves in our shoes. What if it was their kids? What actions would they take? 

El 23 de enero de 2025, desafortunadamente, un estudiante pasó las puertas de entrada y la administración con una pistola en su mochila. Pasó junto al personal esta mañana y ninguno de ellos tenía idea de lo que tenía en su mochila. El estudiante siguió con su mañana en clase y nadie tenía ni idea. Esto podría haberse evitado fácilmente. Nunca debería haber atravesado la puerta principal. Nuestros niños necesitan sentirse seguros en la escuela y nosotros, como padres, debemos hacer eso nuestra prioridad. ¿Por qué esperar una “próxima vez” y arriesgarse a que suceda algo peor? Si podemos convencer a la escuela y al distrito de que intensifiquen su protocolo de seguridad, no deberíamos tener que preocuparnos tanto por la “próxima vez”. Pero si no hablamos ahora y defendemos a nuestros hijos AHORA, esta no será la primera ni la última vez que esto suceda. Si no podemos detener la violencia, debemos unirnos como la comunidad que somos y hacer todo lo posible para proteger a nuestros niños. La escuela/distrito necesita escucharnos y ponerse en nuestro lugar. ¿Y si fueran hijos de ellos? ¿Qué acciones tomarían?
