The Issue

My little brother Emanuel Bowie is currently incarcerated at SCI Mahanoy. He has been experiencing severe health issues, including heart palpitations and stomach problems, yet the prison authorities are refusing to take him to the hospital for the appropriate medical care. This situation not only risks his health but also highlights a significant gap in healthcare accessibility for incarcerated individuals.

When someone is under the care of the prison system, their health needs must be met with the same urgency and seriousness as anyone else's. My brother, like many others, is entitled to receive proper medical attention, and this should not be compromised by the walls that confine him. His cries for help and the noticeable symptoms he's experiencing are real, immediate, and require urgent intervention.

Prison authorities have a duty of care to ensure the well-being of all individuals under their watch. It is unacceptable for these healthcare needs to be overlooked due to his current circumstances. Other facilities have protocols to handle such medical emergencies, and SCI Mahanoy should be no exception. The ethical and humane treatment of inmates is a standard that must be upheld at all times.

According to the World Health Organization, incarcerated individuals have the right to the same standard of care as those in the community, and ignoring these needs is a breach of ethical guidelines, potentially leading to severe health consequences or even legal repercussions.

Please join me in demanding that SCI Mahanoy properly address medical emergencies and allow my brother to be taken to the hospital without further delay. By signing this petition, you will help ensure that immediate action is taken to protect his health and uphold a standard of care that is universally necessary. Your support is crucial in advocating for his rights and the rights of other inmates who may find themselves in similar situations. Sign today to urge authorities to act responsibly and humanely.
