Demand maximum sentencing in the death of Jody Mann

Demand maximum sentencing in the death of Jody Mann

The Issue

My 20-year-old daughter, Jody Mann, was tragically killed in a senseless hit and run. Left alone on the side of the road, her bright future was extinguished by a reckless driver who fled the scene, a man with a known history of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) offenses and prior hit-and-runs. Had he been held accountable before now, my daughter would still be here. This wasn't just an accident; it was the culmination of repeated reckless behavior that had already endangered countless lives.

Jody was a vibrant young woman with aspirations and dreams that lit up her path and touched those around her. Her life was taken too soon because an individual consistently ignored the law, ignored the safety of others, and chose, time and again, to put his interests above human life. Because of his actions, her mother, father, and five siblings must now learn to live in a world without her in it. Thanks to pre-set bail, the person responsible was allowed to make bail twice within hours of being booked. Pre-set bail should not be allowed when someone is charged with a crime that causes severe bodily injury or death. They should be required to go before a judge before bail is determined. He was allowed his rights but what about Jody’s rights? She had rights too, until he took them away from her. Statistics show that each year, over 10,000 people in America are killed in accidents involving drunk drivers, and hit-and-run incidents have startlingly increased by over 60% in the past decade, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The offender in Jody's case is a repeat offender, reflecting a blatant disregard for the law and human life. It is time we take a stand against this negligence. We need the judicial system to recognize the severity of repeated offenses related to DWIs and hit-and-run cases. Granting him maximum sentencing would be a step towards justice, not only for Jody but for all victims who have suffered due to such reckless actions.

We demand a stricter stance on individuals who repeatedly violate law enforcement by imposing maximum penalties to deter further senseless deaths. It is time for change, time to take preventative action in saving lives by ensuring justice is served. Your support can make a difference. Please sign this petition to demand the maximum sentencing for the man responsible for Jody Mann's untimely death. Let's ensure that such a tragedy never happens to another family.
