Christopher Antoine, 40, is now facing an aggravated animal cruelty charge, but this isn't his first brush with the law. He was already serving a four-year probation term tied to a 2024 felony criminal mischief conviction when this happened. That means the system had already flagged him as someone who needed close supervision, and it wasn't enough to stop this.

This case shouldn't just end in another quiet plea deal. Prosecutors need to pursue the maximum penalty available under Florida's aggravated animal cruelty statute, and the court overseeing his probation violation needs to treat this as the serious red flag it is. "This is a heinous crime. Our department takes it very seriously. It is animal cruelty," said Capt. Christopher Rogers of the Pembroke Pines Police Department, according to CBS Miami.

Local wildlife, including the ducks that share our neighborhoods, ponds, and parking lots, deserve real protection, not a system that lets repeat offenders slip through with minimal consequences.
