Demand Mandatory Bus Dismissal Safeguards & Emergency Transparency in Bibb County Schools

The Issue

We, the undersigned parents, caregivers, taxpayers, and residents of Macon-Bibb County, demand that the Bibb County Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Dan Sims immediately implement the following student transportation safety measures:

Strict 8-and-Under Hand-Off Enforcement: Enforce mandatory visual line-of-sight verification before any student age 8 or younger is released at a bus stop. If no authorized adult is present, the child must remain safely on the bus.
Color-Coded Visual Backpack Tags: Require standardized, heavy-duty visual tags on elementary backpacks (e.g., Car Rider vs. Bus Number) to eliminate human error during dismissal line loading.
Mandatory Administrative Telematics Training: Ensure all campus principals and front-office staff are fully trained and granted real-time operational access to district GPS bus-tracking software during dismissal emergencies.
Strict Missing Child Escalation Timeframes: Establish a mandatory 5-to-10-minute maximum search window before Campus Police and transportation dispatch are formally notified of an unaccounted-for child.
