The Issue

I am a dedicated animal rescuer, alongside many others in Los Angeles, CA. We spend our evenings tirelessly working to help animals in need. This is an expensive, time-consuming, and heart-wrenching endeavor that we undertake without any compensation. It feels as though we are doing the work of the shelters and their employees.

Our city's overpopulation of dogs and cats is a pressing issue that contributes to the suffering of these innocent creatures due to overbreeding. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S shelters nationwide every year - many being from areas with high poverty rates where affordable veterinary care is scarce.

We believe that offering low-cost or free spay/neuter services through our city's animal services could significantly reduce this problem in Los Angeles. By implementing such programs, we can prevent unwanted litters thus reducing overcrowding in shelters while also minimizing euthanasia rates.

We urge you to join us in calling upon Los Angeles City Animal Services and Animal Control departments to offer low-cost or free spaying/neutering for dogs and cats within our community. Let's work together towards ending unnecessary suffering caused by overbreeding.
