Demand Legal Support for International Students at Risk of Visa Revocation

Demand Legal Support for International Students at Risk of Visa Revocation
The Issue
It has come to our attention that international students studying in the United States are at an increased risk of having their visas revoked for minor offenses or for expressing their opinions freely, even when these opinions challenge the perspective of the current administration. It's estimated that there are over a million international students contributing to the U.S.'s economy and diverse academic environment (Source: Institute for International Education). Despite this, support for these students, particularly regarding legal issues, remain largely inadequate.
These international students, who contribute greatly to the rich cultural, intellectual, and even financial fabric of our education system, are left defenseless and distressed, leading to a hostile academic environment. In many cases, institutions overlook the burden that these students face and lack methods for supporting them through these challenges.
We believe that it is the duty of colleges and universities to equip these students with the necessary legal protection and resources they need in order to survive in a foreign land, far away from the comfort and safety of their homes.
By providing the requisite legal aid to these students, educational institutions not only lend a helping hand to a vulnerable section of their community but also uphold their responsibilities as education providers in a nation that champions freedom of speech and diversity.
We urge college and university leaders to fully acknowledge this issue and move towards introducing comprehensive legal assistance for international students facing visa revocations for minor offenses or for exercising their constitutional right to free speech. Support our future leaders – sign this petition to make a difference.
