As residents of Altadena, we have experienced first-hand the negative impacts of the trash contract awarded to UWS. Our bill has increased by an astronomical 55% from approximately $75 per quarter to almost $140 for the same service in less than a year since UWS took over. We are not an anomalous case. Many Altadena constituents are experiencing similar increases in their service costs ranging from 10-60%. We're being forced to pay more while receiving substandard service, from no-show trash haulers, to constantly damaged bins, to never receiving critical bear-proof bins that were promised months ago, to billing inconsistencies and nonexistent customer service, to picking up loose trash and even broken glass every week after UWS visits, to what appears to be no proper handling of recycling and green waste (as many of us have witnessed all of our bins being dumped into the same trucks). The situation is unacceptable and cannot continue. 

This is all following a flawed RFP process with no community input or transparency and what can only be described as a bait-and-switch tactic that promised lower prices and cost savings but has only delivered disappointment. The lack of response or improvement from UWS, despite County hosted Town Halls is another major concern, leaving us feeling unheard and frustrated.

We believe that we should have a voice in choosing our trash service provider. It's time for LA County to revisit this contract, consider its impact on its constituents, and provide us with options rather than forcing us into an unsatisfactory agreement that's turned out to be a figurative dumpster fire for Altadenans.
