In the RM of Rheinland, MB, Canada, our safety bubble was violated when an innocent child, my own niece, became the victim of a vicious dog attack. This has left us, her family and the wider community, in deep shock and in urgent call for action. The pain and trauma inflicted upon a child by an aggressive dog is immeasurable and unacceptable. 

In Canada, according to the Canada Safety Council, there are an estimated 460,000 incidents of dog bites annually, with children being the most common victims. This data signals the urgency and gravity of our situation. It also prompts us to question the ownership and control measures of harmful dogs in our area.

We believe in the rights of animals, but when a dog poses a serious threat to our community, it's crucial we prioritize the safety of our children. This incident has scarred our family, but it also provides us with the resolve necessary to instigate change.

We urge our local authorities in Winkler, MB, to mandate the responsible management of this particular dog that has attacked a child. This includes, regrettably, the humane euthanasia of the dangerous dog. It's a difficult step, but we need to make sure that such a harrowing incident never repeats itself in our peaceful helm.
