Demand Justice for Wrongful Family Separation and Implement Protection Measures
The Issue
In what was one of the most traumatizing incidents of my life, my babies were unjustly taken away from me. The Child Services Board (CSB) and the police arrived at my house without warning. Despite my objections, they forced their way in, physically attacked me, and wrongfully detained me. Behind bars, I found myself subject to further manipulation and harassment. Where My only crime as seen by them, was the suspicion of mental illness.
This occurrence is far from an isolated incident; it is a recurring pattern of injustice dealt onto families by systems that are supposed to protect them. According to the latest statistics by the National Conference of State Legislatures, on average, 7.8% of children who encounter Child Protective Services are removed from their homes due to parental mental health issues. It is time for this number to drastically decrease. Enough innocent families have been tormented. Mental health accusations must not become a shortcut to erode basic human rights.
Towards making sure that my story and those of countless others do not replay over and over again, we propose the following changes:
1. Mandatory training for Child Services and law enforcement about mental health and how to handle situations where mental health concerns are raised.
2. Implement a review and oversight committee that includes individuals who have personally experienced mental health challenges, to ensure fair decision-making.
3. Increase community and societal efforts towards mutual understanding, support, and love.
The stigmatization, misinformation, and hasty decisions based on one's mental health needs to end. Let's build a world where love, understanding, and unity reign supreme. A world where every individual's rights are respected, irrespective of their health conditions. As long as we are doing right and able to care for our babies then there should be no problem. Authorities' knee-jerk reaction to familial difficulties should not be to destroy the family but to provide the support necessary to overcome the challenges we face.
This petition calls for the urgent need for reforms; for a system that truly protects children and respects the rights of families. We demand justice, we seek to rectify past wrongs, and above all, we wish to halt the furtherance of this traumatic ordeal to countless other parents and children.
Please join us in urging the government to respect and protect the rights of families and further, to foster an environment of understanding, assistance, and support rather than one of discrimination and division.
Please sign this petition to demand justice for families who have been wrongfully separated and to urge the implementation of these essential protections. It is up to us to come together and take a stand against the corruption and make everlasting changes for us all❣️
