The Issue

A small goat was caught on video darting across a Hialeah parking lot with dollar bills stuck all over its fur. The clip spread quickly after the Only In Dade account posted it, and the Hialeah Police Department has now opened an animal cruelty investigation. So far, no one has been publicly identified, charged, or arrested.

The department says it takes “any situation involving potential animal cruelty very seriously,” according to a Hialeah Police Department statement. Signers want that commitment to last after the video stops trending. They are asking Hialeah Police to identify everyone involved and confirm the goat is safe. They are also asking Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernández Rundle to pursue every charge the evidence supports. Under Florida Statute 828.12, animal cruelty can bring fines of up to $5,000, and aggravated cruelty is a felony with fines of up to $10,000. The video does not show whether the goat was physically hurt, which is exactly why a full investigation matters.

This case does not stand alone. In recent months, Miami-Dade authorities found hundreds of fighting roosters on a Redland property. They also broke up a cockfighting network on a farm where more than 3,100 roosters were later euthanized, and investigated a dead dog found tied to concrete blocks at a Coconut Grove marina. A pattern like this needs a coordinated response. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners can create a dedicated animal cruelty task force that brings police, prosecutors, and animal services together so these cases are investigated fast and in full.

Animals cannot report abuse. They depend on people who will speak up for them. Sign the petition to demand justice for the Hialeah goat and a task force that protects every animal in Miami-Dade.
