Demand justice for the brutally killed stray dog Teer in North Goa
The Issue
This petition comes from a place of deep pain, anger, and helplessness.
Teer, a stray dog I cared for, was brutally murdered in Camurlim, Bardez, North Goa. He was not just another stray, he was part of my daily life, a gentle soul who showed up at the feeding spot, quietly trusting humans despite being abandoned.
Near the Camurlim jetty, he had found a small sense of safety with regular food and familiarity. That was taken away from him in the most horrific way. Teer was mercilessly beaten, suffering severe external and internal injuries. His leg was tied, and he was thrown into a river while still alive.
Let that sink in.
This was not an act of impulse. This was deliberate, prolonged violence.
Disturbingly, we have video evidence capturing the horrific incident. The individual responsible not only committed this heinous act but had previously threatened (including me) and abused people in the area. We got to know from local sources that he had also poisoned many dogs in the same area. Despite being detained twice, he was alarmingly released on a nominal 200 Rs bond and is once again seen moving freely in our community.
Complaints have been diligently filed, and organizations known for animal welfare advocacy, such as the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), PETA India, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), and People for Animals, are involved. However, justice remains elusive, and more needs to be done to ensure such acts of cruelty do not go unpunished.
We call upon the Goa Police and the legal authorities to take stringent action against the accused. There must be severe repercussions for those who commit such brutal acts against voiceless animals. We must push for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws in India, such as the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, to deter future acts of violence.
This is not just about one dog. This is about all the animals who are brutally abused and killed every day in India.
This is about what we allow as a society.
Because cruelty like this does not stop with animals. If someone is capable of this level of violence towards a helpless being, it is a warning sign of a much larger danger.
We cannot normalize this. We cannot ignore this.
Teer deserved safety. He deserved kindness. At the very least, he deserved not to die this way.
We are demanding accountability. We are demanding justice. We are demanding Jail, NOT bail.
DSPCA North Executive Secretary Dexter Braganza on this incident
