The Issue

On June 22, 2026, a kitten and three rattlesnakes were found dead in a truck parked in direct sunlight in Golden Valley, Arizona. The truck belonged to David Leslie Cox, 76, who was transporting 16 cats and 5 rattlesnakes in cages in the desert heat with no relief, no shade, and no water.

A concerned bystander noticed the truck sitting on Highway 68 and called for help. When animal control arrived, they found one kitten already dead in a cage inside the cab. Three rattlesnakes were also dead. The animals that survived — 15 cats and 2 rattlesnakes — were removed from the vehicle.

David Cox now faces 22 counts of animal cruelty. We are calling on Mohave County prosecutors to pursue every single one of those charges. No reduced counts. No quiet plea deals. These animals suffered and died because of inexcusable neglect, and the only justice available to them now is a full prosecution.

Animals cannot speak for themselves. They cannot open a cage door or move to the shade. When a person puts animals in that position and walks away, the law must act — and we must demand that it does.

Sign this petition to tell Mohave County prosecutors: pursue all 22 counts against David Cox and make clear that animal cruelty in Arizona will not go unanswered.
