Demand Justice for the 15-Year-Old Victim, Ashley Dorsey, of Fatal Hit-and-Run

Demand Justice for the 15-Year-Old Victim, Ashley Dorsey, of Fatal Hit-and-Run

The Issue

We, the grieving and outraged citizens of Monroe, Ouachita Parish, and supporters across Louisiana and beyond, demand justice for Ashley Dorsey, a bright 15-year-old girl whose life was tragically cut short in 2019 when she was struck and killed by Daniel Ross, a drunk driver who fled the scene.

Ross—who previously struck another woman in 2016—was sentenced in 2025 to just four years of home incarceration for this fatal crime. This punishment is unacceptable and does not reflect the gravity of his actions or the immense loss suffered by Ashley’s family and community.

Why This Matters:

Ashley Dorsey was only 15 years old. Her future, her dreams, and her life were stolen.

Daniel Ross is a repeat offender, previously involved in another pedestrian crash in 2016.

Despite driving under the influence and fleeing the scene, he will serve his sentence from the comfort of his home—not behind bars.

The judge responsible for this sentencing has not been publicly identified or held accountable.

This decision sets a terrifying precedent: that reckless, fatal behavior can be met with leniency—even when it involves the death of a child.

What We Are Asking For:

The Ouachita Parish District Attorney’s Office to immediately pursue an appeal and request resentencing for Daniel Ross.

The Louisiana Judiciary Commission to launch an inquiry into the judge’s decision and lack of transparency surrounding the case.

The Louisiana Attorney General to initiate a full review of the case and determine whether justice has truly been served.

Louisiana lawmakers to introduce legislation preventing repeat DUI offenders involved in fatal crashes from qualifying for home incarceration.

Ashley deserves justice. Her family deserves closure. Our community deserves safety.

We will not stay silent while a repeat offender receives a sentence that fails to reflect the seriousness of his crimes.

Sign this petition to demand accountability, transparency, and justice for Ashley Dorsey.
