Demand Justice for Tarique Dodge
The Issue
On November 12, 2023, an appalling incident occurred that shattered our trust in the law enforcement and judicial system of Grand Rapids, MI. My brother, a loving father of three, was brutally murdered. This isn't just another case of violence, this is an outcry against a well-connected killer who is walking free.
Our family is left to mourn and question this gross miscarriage of justice. The murderer James W Goins III escaped the clutches of the law because his father is a well-connected former police officer. The system that should protect us has let us down and crushed our faith. Every day the perpetrator of this heinous crime walks free is a slap in the face of our family, particularly for my brother's three little children who deserved to see justice served for their father. Our family has been through hell this past year with the loss of Ta'Rique, not even a month after his death my older brother TJ lost his life as well. We are seeking peace and justice from a city that has already showed us the crime wasn't important to them
The city of Grand Rapids reported a 10% increase in homicides in 2023, compared to the previous year (City Crime Report, 2023). It is disheartening to think that some of these cases may not be thoroughly investigated due to connections and bias within the system.
This, however, is more than just numbers. It's about ensuring justice for my brother and restoring faith to his children that the system did right by their father. Every signature can potentially prevent another family from experiencing such profound devastation.
We, therefore, call upon the officials in Grand Rapids, MI, and concerned citizens across the state, to reopen the investigation. Let impartial justice, not nepotism, decide the fate of my brother's killer.
Please, support us in this fight for justice and demand a fair investigation into the tragic death of our beloved family member. We owe it to him, his children, and to all victims of such miscarriages of justice. Sign this petition.
