I am writing this petition on behalf of Rocky, a German shepherd who I personally rescued after witnessing the horrible situation he was in. He was caught on a Ring camera being beaten by his owner, whose identity remains unknown. This videotaped incident of cruelty sparked outrage on social media, and I couldn’t stand by knowing Rocky needed help. I took it upon myself to rescue him, knocking on the door of his abuser and taking Rocky to safety.

In San Jose, CA, we pride ourselves on being a community that cares about all its members, including our animal companions. This horrific act of violence against Rocky is a grim reminder that animal abuse persists and that our laws need to be strong enough to deter such actions and punish those responsible effectively.

Animal cruelty is not just a breach of trust against defenseless creatures; it is a crime that reflects the moral and ethical failings of our society. Every year, thousands of animals experience abuse, often at the hands of those they trust the most. It is time we let it be known that this will not be tolerated in San Jose, or anywhere else.
