The Issue

On October 3, 2024, Robert (Tone) Jones, 54, a beloved member of his family and valued community member, was gunned down by Philadelphia Homicide Detective Christopher Sweeney. Yet, nearly half a year later, the Philadelphia Police Department has failed to bring any charges against Sweeney, who remains on administrative duty, free of accountability for this violent act. The family is left with unanswered questions and an aching need for justice.

Sweeney pulled into the middle of the road to a stop in his personal vehicle. Robert Jones, who was a professional roadside assistance worker, walked over in a high-visibility vest, likely to offer assistance. Sweeney shot Robert Jones through his own window without getting up from his seat, and then ridiculously claimed that he was defending himself from a carjacking.

Christopher Sweeney must be fired and charged. By signing this petition, you’re standing alongside Robert’s family and the Philadelphia community to demand accountability and justice. We can’t let this act of violence against an innocent Black man go ignored. This injustice has endured for too long, and it only stops when we take a stand.

The Philadelphia Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression calls on all justice-minded people to join us in holding Detective Sweeney accountable. His administrative duty status is unacceptable – we demand his immediate termination and arrest.

Will you join us in demanding that Christopher Sweeney is removed from duty and held responsible for his actions?
