The Issue

Na’Ziyah Harris, a mere 13-year-old child was horrendously violated and murdered by a 41-year-old man Jarvis Butts, who is also the father to 5 children he shared with Annette Harris. Shockingly, this tragic incident that cost Na'Ziyah's life was not a standalone event but rather, the culmination of continued abuse, under the care and inspection of Annette and Shannon Harris. These individuals were privy to the atrocities inflicted upon Na’Ziyah yet chose silence over action. Sadly, the matter did not end here; during legal proceedings, both Annette and Shannon Harris committed perjury, constructing a grotesque facade of innocence and ignorance.

According to crime data, every year approximately 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys become victims of child sexual abuse in the United States (Statistics from American SPCC). This needs to stop, and that initiative can start here. By charging and convicting Annette and Shannon Harris, we can hope to set a deterring example for any bystander willing to ignore child abuse and neglect.

This heart-wrenching incident is not only a matter of justice for one child. It is about standing up against child neglect, abuse and perjury for all minors in our society. Let us pay tribute to Na'Ziyah by ensuring her tragic story catalyzes justice and sparks widespread change. Sign this petition to demand justice for Na'Ziyah Harris, for her memory, and for all children who suffer under similar circumstances. We must hold Annette and Shannon Harris accountable for their actions.
