On August 1, 2025, Michael Robinson, an 18-year-old African American teenager, became the victim of an appalling racially-motivated attack. A night meant for friendship and community quickly turned into a scene of violence when Michael was assaulted by a group of inebriated individuals at the Regal Simi Valley Civic Center. These individuals, sat in intoxication and bigotry, attacked Michael without provocation. Yet, unforgivably, this horrifying assault has been met with silence from those meant to protect and serve.

Racism in our community is at an all-time high, and this terrifying incident underscores a painful truth—justice is far from guaranteed for us people of color especially when voices from the esteemed Simi Valley Police Department and Mayor Dee Dee Cavanaugh remain deafeningly silent. This lack of action sends a chilling message to our community: if you are a person of color, your safety and justice are not a priority.

This cannot stand. We demand that the Simi Valley Police Department thoroughly investigate this case, charging those responsible for the attack on Michael Robinson. Moreover, we insist on accountability within our law enforcement and city administration to ensure every citizen, regardless of race, is equally protected and valued.

The lack of response to such an obvious hate crime is a disservice not only to Michael but to everyone hoping for a future free from fear and discrimination. To the Simi Valley Police and Mayor Dee Dee Cavanaugh, you are urged to take immediate and decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore faith within our community.
