This story is a  phenomenal piece of investigative journalism that pieces together the history and consequences of having child sexual abuse treated under statute of repose(SOR). This change occurred in 2017 as a result of a last minute amendment introduced by the Church lobbyist.  SOR applies to products and product liability but it also supposedly guarantees that a look back window is unconstitutional.  In doing this the Church paid high priced lobbyist, like John Stierhoff pictured above, to treat adult survivors of child sexual abuse as product liability issues.  Mr. Stierhoff, and his law firm Venable LLP, certainly did not act on their own. There can be little doubt that Bishop Lori and Cardinal Wuerl were fully informed of what was taking place.  And yet these 2 princes of the Church claim they will do everything they can to help victims ... like treat them as products to be discarded.
