Too often the Catholic Church claims that other institutions are also guilty of sexual abuse - as if that is some excuse for Catholic priests. Both Bishop Lori and his former roommate, the defrocked ex-Cardinal McCarrick have made that claim.  And we now know that McCarrick was a rampant abuser of children and young seminarians. The fact is, they are correct. Most child sexual abuse does not occur in the Catholic Church as this article eludes. A Gilman School teacher was just arrested on child sexual abuse charges.   What is different about the Catholic Church is the worldwide network of cover up available to abusive priests (they can leave the country and be protected). They are also the only organization that opposes SOL reform in Maryland - therefore excluding not only victims of Catholic cleric abuse but the majority of victims who were not abused in the Catholic Church.
