Levi is a precious dog that endured horrible torture. Caught on video being hit and choked by his owner in broad daylight, Levi’s abuse shocked El Paso residents and the wider internet. The footage was shared by “TheRealFitFamElPaso” and quickly led to the arrest of 68-year-old Gerald Gallegos.

Thanks to fast public action, Levi was rescued and is now safe with the Animal Rescue League of El Paso. But the fight for justice isn’t over.

Gallegos was charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals—but he’s already out on bond. Without strong public pressure, cases like this risk being swept aside with light penalties and minimal consequences.

This cannot be a moment of viral outrage and forgotten justice.

We call on El Paso prosecutors and judges to treat this for what it is—violent abuse of a defenseless animal. We demand the maximum legal consequences available, no plea deals, and stronger support for shelters like the Animal Rescue League that take in victims like Levi every day.
