Demand Justice for Kolkata's Resident Doctor and Ensure Women's Safety in Our Nation

The Issue

As a woman and a fellow healthcare provider, I am deeply distressed by the recent atrocious attack on a young female doctor, serving dutifully in Kolkata. Despite our nation achieving independence 78 years ago, the lingering cloud of women's insecurity continues to impair our progress. This incident is a grim reminder of the institutional barriers still obstructing women's safety and rights. Recent rises in reported assaults on women - nearly 88 rape cases daily in 2019 according to the National Crime Records Bureau - amplify our collective plea for action.

Additionally, we demand immediate, impartial investigation into this particular case. The apparent involvement of higher authorities raises concerns about the possible compromise or weakening of the evidence ,thereby hindering the course of justice. For the trust in our government to be restored, their resignation is paramount.

In the wake of such an incident, it is evident that crucial measures must be implemented to ensure the safety and dignity of women - a fundamental right in our democratic nation. We call upon lawmakers and authorities to set up rigorous, sustainable safety measures and enforce stringent penalties against perpetrators to discourage such heinous acts.

In capturing the voice and pain of millions of daughters, sisters, and mothers across the nation, we urge you to sign this petition. By doing so, you are standing united for justice, for the resident doctor in Kolkata, and for every woman's undeniable right to safety and respect.
