Can you believe the courts have changed the date AGAIN? The new court date was moved to December 18th, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., all because the judge was unavailable and requested to move the hearing. This last-minute change was unacceptable, making it nearly impossible for Harold's family to adjust their travel plans yet again.

Now, yet another change has occurred. A new court date has been established: January 30th, 2025.

This is beyond frustrating. This marks the third time the court has changed the hearing date, and the case itself has been postponed multiple times since it began. These constant delays are a slap in the face to Harold’s memory, his grieving family, and everyone fighting for justice.

We speak from the depths of profound pain and anguish as we continue to mourn the loss of a beloved son, brother, fiancé, and cousin, Harold Almonte. On October 5th, 2023, our lives were shattered when Harold was tragically taken from us in a motorcycle accident. His life was ruthlessly cut short by a negligent drunk driver named William Clark from Hawthorne, NJ.

On that fateful day, Clark’s vehicle crossed the double yellow line, colliding head-on with Harold’s motorcycle. The impact was so severe that it catapulted Harold into a nearby utility pole with such force that it cracked the pole. This horrific incident was a direct result of William Clark's reckless behavior, as he was allegedly intoxicated at the time.

A year has passed since Harold’s untimely death, yet we are still waiting for justice. It is an unbearable reality that the person responsible for taking Harold’s life, and for inflicting this endless grief upon us, remains free. To our dismay, William Clark was released on bail under New Jersey's Bail Reform laws—a decision that feels like a slap in the face to our grieving family and to all victims of drunk driving.

We urge Judge Purvin to recognize the severity of this crime and to give William Clark the highest possible sentence for his reckless actions. This is not just about justice for Harold, but about sending a clear message that drunk driving will not be tolerated and that lives lost to this senseless act will not be dismissed. The leniency extended to a drunk driver who took an innocent life does not align with the cause of justice. This reform was intended to ensure fairness, but it was never meant to protect those who have shown a blatant disregard for the law and for human life.

This tragedy is not just a personal loss for our family; it is a stark reminder of the broader epidemic of drunk driving that claims thousands of innocent lives every year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2018 alone, 10,511 people were killed in drunk driving crashes—that’s one person every 50 minutes.

Our plea is simple: we demand justice for Harold Almonte and for all the lives senselessly taken by drunk drivers. We implore the legal system to hold William Clark fully accountable for his actions by imposing the maximum sentence allowed. Let Harold’s tragic death not be in vain.
