In the heart of Texas, a beloved dog named Gunner was taken from his life too early. An advocate for animal rights, my spirit has been deeply shaken to witness the vile treatment of an innocent being at the hands of those who were supposed to provide shelter and care. The Denton, Texas Animal Shelter euthanized Gunner, going against the conventional 72-hour animal shelter hold time and plunged this beautiful soul into the silent abyss of a plastic bag. This is not only shocking and grotesque; it is undeniably a case of animal cruelty.

We assert our demand that Linda McNatt, a central figure in this tragic event, be held accountable and be charged with animal cruelty. Not stopping there, we call for the immediate shutdown of the Denton Animal Shelter, as an entity that operates with such disregard for life cannot be allowed to continue. In 2019 alone, shelters across the US euthanized approximately 625,000 animals, a soul-crushing figure that foreshadows a dark future if we stand idle (ASPCA). To allow this incident to pass without retribution is to turn our backs on every animal in need of protection. We urge the Governor of Texas, together with passionate organizations like PETA and the Texas ASPCA, to look into this case and ensure that justice is served. We must not let Gunner's death be in vain!
