Shirley (formerly Piper) and Pepper (formerly Singer) are sisters that were originally rescued by Ashley DiFelice along with Caitlin of Rancho Relaxo sometime in 2018/2019. They were being raised by a "local" farmer* for their flesh and living with three other pigs inside of a horse trailer for the first 6 months of their lives. Rancho Relaxo took in one of the pigs (a boy that they named Ian) and a rescue in Pennsylvania took in two. The other two pigs went to Twist of Fate, and Ashley's son Deacon named them Piper and Singer. Shirley/Piper is the all pink pig and Pepper/Singer is the pig with the black markings.
Piper & Singer are "farm pigs", which are the largest breed and require a lot to take care of them in terms of food, shelter, space, etc. Pictured above in August of 2019, they would spend most of their time together when they were at Twist of Fate and were often seen bathing in mud.
Along with the other survivors that were living at what was left of the Twist of Fate shambles, Piper & Singer were rescued and went to live at their new home at JP Farm Animal Sanctuary (@jpfarmanimalsanctuary) in Connecticut, USA. They arrived with good body scores since they had access to a field with lush grass but they were still neglected, not fed a proper diet, and not used to humans. Their ears were caked with dirt, clay, and debris inside, which must have been very itchy and uncomfortable for them. Fortunately they were very open to a spa day from their new human family! They still enjoy bathing in mud and can be found there quite often, or munching on pumpkins or some of their other favorite treats. The sisters spend a lot of time together - I have a lot of photos and videos of the two of them courtesy of JP and I think I only have one or two of either one by themselves! These girls have been trauma bonded since birth and are still so close - how wonderful that they finally get to grow old together someplace safe.
If you'd like to support Pepper & Shirley, please give @jpfarmanimalsanctuary a follow! They are also home to additional pigs, cows, chickens, roosters, dogs, turkeys, and even Highland cows! You can also make a donation towards their care via JP's website, Venmo (@jpfarmanimalsanctuary), or PayPal (info@jpfarm.org). They also have cute shirts, hoodies, hats and totes available on Bonfire, or to make a monthly donation in any amount you can join their Patreon. And you can also contact JP Farm about planning a visit! JP is currently holding a fundraiser to raise money for hay for their residents as they have a lot that either eat hay and/or use it for bedding. They just restocked three and a half truck loads for the year - it breaks down to $20,251 or about $55 per day between all of the animals. They're still quite a ways away from meeting their goal, so please consider making a donation to their hay fundraiser as every little bit helps! The link to it is in their Instagram bio and you can pay with a credit card or PayPal.
(I also wanted to give a personal thank you to JP for linking this petition in their Instagram bio too - it's much appreciated!)
*Just a note - "local" farms and farmers mean nothing when it comes to animal exploitation, abuse, and murder...it's all the same whether it happens one at a time or on a mass scale. Besides, every disgusting taboo factory farm is "local" to someone, right? So "location" shouldn't be a justification or an excuse for what happens to these animals. Also, there are no organizations that monitor local farms to check on the conditions, the welfare of the animals, etc. Calling a farm "local" is just greenwashing you into believing that you're supporting something better when in reality you're just supporting more of the same. If you truly love animals and want to help them and save them, please stop eating them, wearing their skins, and buying products tested on them.
I often hear from people that they can't bear to watch footage from slaughterhouses or abattoirs but then they'll have no problem paying for it and therefore supporting it in order to eat their own meals. It doesn't make sense! I used to be one of these people though until I woke up and decided to stop living as a hypocrite and became a vegan. (A harsh statement? Maybe. But definitely a truthful statement.) I urge you to look into it and do the same, for the sake of the animals - every single animal whose story I share from this cruelty case was originally bound for slaughter to be someone's meal, and yes, this includes the horses. Going vegan and ceasing your part in animal abuse and death is much easier than you think, believe me! You can find a list of books, YouTube channels, Instagram accounts, podcasts, documentaries, cookbooks, websites, articles, and blogs here that will help you make one of the best decisions of your life. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @ispellithaley and I can offer even more tips and resources! But please no trolls - I have enough to do in my life and don't have the time. And remember, veganism is about being kind to animals, plain and simple. Any argument AGAINST veganism is just a statement that is PRO-animal abuse. There are no exceptions.
Thank you for reading all of these updates! It's very much appreciated.
Ashley's next court date is Thursday, November 2nd. According to the last court date on October 12th, additional charges are supposed to be filed against her at this time.
