As a passionate animal lover, I am deeply disturbed by the actions of Kristi Noem, who admitted in her memoir to shooting her 14-month-old puppy, Cricket. This act was not only cruel but unnecessary. There were many other options available to deal with an unwanted pet - surrendering her to a shelter or finding another family or hunter who could have appreciated this hunting breed.

Noem's actions are not just morally reprehensible but potentially criminal. According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, intentional cruelty can be considered a felony in all 50 states (source: ALDF). In South Dakota specifically, where Noem resides and serves as governor, animal cruelty is punishable by up to two years in prison and/or a $4,000 fine (source: South Dakota Codified Laws).

This petition seeks justice for Cricket and accountability for Kristi Noem's actions. We demand that appropriate legal measures be taken against Noem for her admission of such an act of brutality against an innocent creature who had no means of defending itself.
