Brad Hughes, a well-respected businessman in our community, was tragically taken away from us, shot eight times in cold blood by Darren Govender. Govender, an off-duty law enforcement superintendent who has proven to be a hazard for society with his anger issues and reckless behavior, must not be allowed to walk free. A significant portion of our community lives in fear due to Govender's powerful connections and his position in law enforcement. This situation has shaken us all, surely a testament to the magnitude of the loss of Brad, beloved by family, friends, and community members alike. This petition seeks to ensure justice prevails by requesting that Govender be denied bail, and the case transferred to Pietermaritzburg in KZN. These actions are critical to avoid potential conflicts, favoritism, and risks of evidence being compromised given Govender's influential standing. Brad Hughes' tragic death must not be in vain.
