Demand Justice for a 16-Year-Old Dog Tortured on a West Hollywood Street
The Issue
A 16-year-old Chihuahua was beaten in broad daylight at a busy West Hollywood intersection — and the man charged with doing it walked free the same day.
On the morning of June 22, 2026, witnesses at the corner of La Cienega Boulevard and Holloway Drive watched in horror as Richard William Caamano, 55, allegedly physically abused a small, elderly dog. Witnesses called the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Deputies responded and took the dog from Caamano.
A dog who has lived sixteen years deserves better than that.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed one felony count of animal cruelty under California Penal Code 597(a). That charge carries up to three years in state prison, $20,000 in fines, and — critically — a permanent ban on owning animals. We want all of it pursued.
We are calling on the LA County DA's Office to seek the maximum penalty and a lifetime animal ownership ban, and on the court to impose immediate pretrial conditions barring Caamano from any contact with animals while this case is pending.
Senior animals cannot ask for protection. They rely on us.
