The Issue

My son is currently an inmate in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. His life is in danger, but instead of receiving the protection he desperately needs, he is met with disciplinary actions for voicing his concerns. This is not an isolated incident; it is a systemic issue that affects many individuals who are incarcerated in Oklahoma. Their rights are being violated, their voices are being silenced, and their lives are at risk all because of systemic failures that deny them proper legal representation and protection.

The legal system is supposed to be a safeguard of justice and fairness, ensuring every individual has access to a fair trial with adequate representation. Unfortunately, too many cases in Oklahoma are falling through the cracks, with courts failing to provide lawyers who can effectively defend these individuals. As a result, inmates like my son are serving sentences that should have been reconsidered or dismissed. This negligence not only compromises the integrity of the justice system but endangers their well-being.

Statistics from reputable sources reveal that over 80% of defendants in the United States require court-appointed counsel, yet far too many still do not receive competent representation. In Oklahoma, this issue is dire, with numerous reports indicating inadequate legal support for those who cannot afford private counsel. According to a report by the Oklahoma Policy Institute, the state ranks among the lowest in the nation for public defender funding, leading to overburdened defense attorneys who are unable to provide comprehensive legal defense.

Additionally, the lack of protection within prison walls further exacerbates the vulnerability of inmates. Data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics highlights the prevalence of violence in correctional facilities, emphasizing the critical need for protective measures and reform. It is essential that when an inmate voices concerns for their safety, they are taken seriously and provided with the necessary protection rather than punitive measures that silence their plea for help.

We urge the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and the state judicial system to address these urgent concerns. We call for the implementation of policies that ensure inmates receive adequate legal defense and protective measures that safeguard their well-being. Moreover, we demand an independent review of inmate complaints about safety and legal representation.

The time for change is now. We must stand together to protect the rights and lives of those who cannot defend themselves within the prison system. Please sign this petition to demand justice and protection for Oklahoma inmates.im asking that the courts review my son's case it should be reviewed  I fear he will not survive his sentence
