My vehicle was hit by a metro bus last night

Hello everyone,

My vehicle was hit at the back by a Metro bus last night while I was driving at Wisconsin Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue in the District of Columbia, Washington DC. It was a bit dark.

Bus D90 Tenlytown, 4605 hit the back side of my vehicle on about 6:35 pm. I was hurt and so was the passenger. 

DCPD was dispatched with paramedic. We were hit when making the legal right turn on Wisconsin Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue. 

After the police watched the bus camera footage, under the rain, he concluded that technically I was supposed to allow the metro bus to go through, even though I could legally make that turn. He cited me with $100. Than the supervisor of the metro bus driver, came to me and apologizing for the accident her driver caused. 

I inquired, giving that I could legally make that turn, does it not mean that, I am in the right ahead? DCPD, said I can pursue legal action against them and contest the $100 citation at will. 

The supervisor of the metro bus came to me again and was really apologetic and humbled—in seeking resolution via forgiveness at the first strike and I sincerely appreciated that. 

After speaking with five people, I was advised to filed a claim and Lyft had also open a claim against metro bus after I reported the accident last night. I prayed for clarity and understanding overnight. 

Today, I decided since I was technically supposed to allow the metro bus driver to go through, even though I had the right of way, makes me somewhat in the wrong —and for that I prefer to be accountable over gaslighting.

I went to the shop this morning and fixed the car with my own money, I will pay the $100 citation by this Friday and will not proceed in filing any claims whatsoever, against Metro bus. 

Finally, this update is for visibility and transparency purposes.
